If we’re strangers to you, let us introduce ourselves. We are a chamber choir of 8.6.6.8 voices, this year celebrating our 40th season. Having bid a fond and grateful farewell to Stephen Wilkinson after a memorable 38 years, we’re now embarking on our second season under musical director Keith Orrell.
Our aim is to inspire and engage both musicians and listeners in performances that have been carefully and lovingly prepared. Our rehearsals are characterised by illuminating imagery, humour, and a deep understanding of words and music. We want to offer vibrant, meaningful interpretations, and a repertoire that reflects a literary, dramatic and spiritual approach to performance, honed by a lifetime of rich experience.
We give a season of four concerts in Manchester and sometimes go further afield; this has taken us widely around both the UK and Europe. We have recorded a number of CDs and made occasional broadcasts.
From time to time we have room for new singers, and at the moment we are especially on the lookout for a tenor. If you are interested in joining us, please contact our secretary Mary Halloran. You’ll find us every bit as friendly as we are committed.
We rehearse in the excellent hall of Sale United Reformed Church in Montague Road, Sale, M33 3BU, close to Sale Metrolink station, on Sundays from 2.15-5.15, and the occasional Monday evening. There is good parking there. Rehearsals begin in September.
The first and last of our seasonal concerts are at Christ Church, West Didsbury, close to the intersection of Barlow Moor Road and Princess Parkway. Our Christmas concert this year takes place for the first time at St Ann’s Church in Manchester, and the highlight of our season is our February concert with the English Cornett and Sackbutt Ensemble at the RNCM.
We are a special choir with a long-standing reputation. Do join us – whether as performers or audience.
