William Byrd and Thomas Weelkes

400th Anniversary Concert

On Saturday the 18th of March 2023, the William Byrd Singers will collaborate with
the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble in a celebration of the music of two of the
finest early English composers: William Byrd and Thomas Weelkes, who both died in
1623.

The choir's natural 'home' is steeped in early music, and especially in the music of William Byrd. The pairing of his music with that of contemporary Thomas Weelkes is a perfect collaboration for singer and listener alike. Some of the motets which the choir and ensemble will perform by Weelkes are tremendously joyful and heartfelt in equal measure.

PRIZE DRAW

To acheive the best possible performance (as both Byrd and Weelkes deserve!) we need your help! Finding funding bodies who will support what is, sadly, becoming a niche genre of English cultural heritage is nearly impossible so we’re having to raise funds ourselves. So we have created an online Prize Draw!. For the meagre sum of £5 a ticket you could win a two-night break in York, or Sunday lunch on a Heritage Railway steam train, whilst also helping to fund our performance in March.

Buy your tickets at www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/fab-400 but hurry as the draw closes on the 7th January. Winners will be announced on the 8th January.
